Roundtable on Preliminary Findings in Yemen, 31 July

On 31 July 2016, in Sana'a, the first roundtable on the Preliminary Findings of the case study research on Yemen was organised by the Political Development Forum. The purpose of the event was to present and discuss the first results on the field research to evaluate the EU intervention in Yemen in peacebuilding and conflict prevention for the period between 2011 and now.

According to the CSOs that were present, the focus is on the coherence problem in the EU policies and projects, especially in relation to the sustainability of the projects and its misalignment with the strategic needs of the country and vision of the EU.

The initial results indicate that there are systematic problems in EU project funding and policies (shared with other donors), and they culminate in the issue that donors impose the framework and scope of the projects rather than allow for CSOs and local actors (even government) to decide the strategic scope and themes to better fit the country needs.

The roundtable was attended by representatives of CSOs that have been resilient during the war and were some of the main recipient of the bigger aid grants from the EU and other donors.
